Dubai’s New Dh40 Million Mall to Support Local Mosques
A new mall is currently under construction in Dubai, designed not only as a shopping destination but also as a means to support the emirate’s mosques. The project aims to generate funds that will finance mosque affairs in the region, setting it apart from typical commercial centers.
Funding Religious Infrastructure
The construction of the mall is progressing steadily, with about 17 percent completed, according to the Endowments and Minors’ Affairs Trust Foundation in Dubai (Awqaf). This initiative is part of Dubai’s ‘Mosques Endowment’ campaign, which supports the Dubai Mosques Endowments Fund. The proceeds from this fund are designated to meet the needs of mosques, particularly those without access to traditional endowments.
Eco-Friendly Design and Features
Spanning 165,000 square feet in Al Khawaneej, the mall will feature 29 shops, a large shopping center, a medical facility, restaurants, and a fitness center. Additional amenities will include service facilities, garden areas, parking lots, and two prayer rooms for men and women. Notably, the mall is being constructed using eco-friendly materials and methods, adhering to international standards for green buildings. The project incorporates advanced technologies for energy generation, conservation, and recycling, utilizing solar and renewable energy sources.
Financial Impact and Sustainability
With an estimated construction cost of Dh40 million, the mall is expected to generate annual revenues of Dh8 million. These funds will be directed towards covering the expenses of approximately 50 mosques in Dubai that lack access to endowments. The innovative approach ensures a sustainable financial model for supporting religious infrastructure in the emirate.
Leadership and Vision
The Secretary-General of Awqaf Dubai, recently reviewed the project’s progress alongside, Deputy Secretary-General, and several division managers and engineers overseeing the development. Secretary-General of Awqaf Dubai emphasized the importance of community involvement, calling on government and private entities, institutions, and individuals to contribute to this sustainable endowment project. He highlighted the project as an innovative model for supporting mosques in the UAE, reflecting a forward-thinking approach to religious and community support.
A Model for Future Projects
This mall represents a pioneering effort in combining commercial success with community support. By integrating modern sustainability practices with charitable purposes, the project sets a benchmark for future developments in the UAE and beyond.
