Dubai Green Spine: Plans Unveiled for 64km Green Highway Along E311 with 1 million trees
URB has unveiled the ambitious “Dubai Green Spine” project to transform Sheikh Zayed Road (E311) into a 64-kilometer sustainable corridor. This transformative project, developed by URB’s research arm EPIC Lab, aligns with the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan.
The Dubai Green Spine aims to revolutionize urban mobility, elevate environmental standards, and support Dubai’s population growth. Key features of the project include a 300-megawatt solar power system, the planting of 1 million trees, and the promotion of non-motorized transport to significantly reduce the city’s carbon footprint.
Baharash Bagherian, CEO of URB, emphasized that the project is not just about transit but about transforming cities to be more livable and human-centric. The initiative integrates thoughtful urban planning to improve city life, turning everyday environments into vibrant ecosystems.
The project centers around 100% solar-powered trams and extensive green spaces designed to enhance community and biodiversity. These areas, connected by pedestrian and cycling paths, aim to beautify the urban landscape and promote environmental health while reducing automobile dependency.
The integration of mixed-use developments will combine residential, commercial, and recreational spaces to boost urban connectivity and community interaction. This strategic positioning ensures that daily amenities are within convenient reach, fostering a dynamic urban life.
The Dubai Green Spine project sets a new global standard for sustainable urban mobility and living. It not only redefines urban mobility but also enhances urban life, paving the way for future cities. This groundbreaking initiative exemplifies how integrated urban planning can drastically improve city life, nurturing both people and the planet.
In addition to the Green Spine, URB has plans for other sustainable projects in Dubai, including the Dubai Mangroves, a coastline development with 100 million new trees, and Dubai Reefs, a floating living lab and ecotourism hotspot aimed at generating over 30,000 jobs in a green economy.
